Music for the Year 2007-2008

Why 2007-2008?  I tend to think in terms of academic years when I plan projects. At any rate, over the next year I plan on working through the following:

• A Modern Method for Guitar, Volume 1 – William Leavitt
• All Blues for Jazz Guitar – Jim Ferguson
• Blues You Can Use – John Gnapes
• Beginning Fingerstyle Blues Guitar – Arnie Berle and Mark Galbo

Now that I look at the list, it doesn’t seem like much. Nevertheless, I think it will keep me pretty busy. In addition to this, I am working on a few other things:

• The modes: all of them, two octaves horizontally and one octave vertically
• Arpeggios: major 7, minor 7, dominant 7, diminished, and augmented
• Freddie Green style comping, mostly on ii-V-I changes and the like
• A few standards

We’ll see how it goes. But I do hope that I actually posting this information will make me a little more diligent about keeping up with my work than I would otherwise be.
